James F. Doughty students used the morning of their October early release day to explore exercise, health, and overall wellness. Students started the day in a morning assembly, where Jennifer McNulty, Professor of Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Athletic Training at the University of Maine, joined some of her Black Bear students to share their fitness motivations. In trademark JFDS style, her message was followed by a grade-level relay and a staff versus students dodgeball game.
Once the day began, students rotated through stations to explore health and wellness interests. Speakers from the University of Maine, Wilcox Fitness, Relevé Dance Center, the YMCA, Sim City, the Boys & Girls Club, River City Soccer Club and many more engaged students in games, activities, and experiences to help students understand what health and wellness means to them. Students also had the opportunity to build seed balls, make healthy snacks, and work through an amazing scavenger hunt.
