Big thank-you to the UMaine Men’s Hockey Team and Bananas the Black Bear for joining us at JFDS today during lunch!
Our lunch was BANANAS! The hockey team dropped in for a game of dodgeball, brought the energy, and even answered questions about their recent season and school majors. We loved having you here. Thanks for making today’s lunch one to remember!

What happens when a school yard becomes a living classroom? In this episode of Beyond the Bell, Dr. Marie Robinson and Sara Luciano welcome members of the Bangor School Garden Network to explore why school gardens matter and what’s growing across the Bangor School Department. Together, they discuss how gardens go far beyond vegetables—creating meaningful connection to nature, strengthening belonging and teamwork, and helping students build curiosity, persistence, and confidence.

Good morning Doughty Track!
I'm hoping this message finds you all well. There was an issue with the app which I'm hoping is now resolved! A couple Important pieces of information:
1. There will be no practice on 4/10.
2. I will be making a schedule to hand out on Monday 4/13 that will encompass the rest of the season excluding weather dependent days.
3. Please make sure kids are dressing WARM.
4. Please do not remove your kid from practice before the end unless you've notified one of the coaches prior; or speak to a coach while at practice. It is important they are there for all parts of the practice in order to avoid injury!
Additionally, I'm looking forward to a great season with these young athletes whom are showing tremendous promise! I will not be present during Thursday practices but the assistant coaches will be! With the addition of our New volunteer coach Collin Manning!
Please feel free to reach out via email or text message with any questions! It's been a great start to the season and the weather is warming up!

Today at JFDS, we held a "Spring Into the Arts" expo led by Mrs. Cousins, Mr. Gebhart, and Mrs. Harvey. Students chose three hands-on sessions from a lineup across visual arts, music, MLTI, theater, and dance. Highlights included a jazz big band, Bangor High percussion ensemble, brass & woodwind quintets, a Maine Savings Amphitheatre talk, theater improv, pet portrait drawing, graphic design, hip hop, swing, Irish step dance, and so much more!
A giant thank-you to the community volunteers who shared their time and talent and helped show our students what a future in the arts can look like!

Another GOLD for the Bangor Middle School Jazz Band at the MMEA State Jazz Festival! Congratulations to Cameron Strout and Blake Bridges, who earned Outstanding Musicianship Awards for their solos.
"I was so proud of the progress all of the students made over the course of the year. They truly saved their best performance for when it mattered most! Watching them perfect their craft and have fun while doing it reminds me why I do what I do." Mr. Gebhart

Congratulations to James F. Doughty’s own Fletcher Simpson, who broke a 22-year-old state record at the Tom Manduca Memorial Swim Meet. Fletcher broke the Maine YMCA state record in the Men’s 13-14 200-yard butterfly, setting a scorching time of 2:04.33. Fletcher continues to compete for both the YMCA and JFDS as part of our intramural swimming team. Middle School Swim has been going on this month and culminated yesterday with the annual meet against the Cohen Eagles.
