JFDS School Reopening Update
2020-2021
Dear James F. Doughty School Families,
Over the first two weeks of school, students, faculty and staff will be developing new routines like never before. Although these routines will be new and different, our top priority remains academic excellence for all. Another important aspect of this year will be to focus on the social and emotional needs of our students to help ease the transition back to school.
Below are specific details outlining the reopening plan.
FIRST FOUR DAYS
Tuesday, September 1: Two-hour Delay
- Grade 6 students only (in-person and both hybrid groups).
- Remote students do not attend.
- Students arrive at school between 10:20 and 10:30 am.
- Grade 7 & 8 Students do not attend.
- School dismissal at 2:30 pm. (Walkers 2:25, Parent pick-up 2:27 and Bussing 2:30 pm)
Wednesday, September 2: Two-hour Delay
- Grades 7 & 8 students only (in-person and both hybrid groups).
- Remote students do not attend.
- Students arrive at school between 10:20 and 10:30 am.
- Grade 6 students do not attend.
- School dismissal at 2:30 pm. (Walkers 2:25, Parent pick-up 2:27 and Bussing 2:30 pm)
Thursday, September 3: Regular School Day
- All Grade 6, 7, 8 in-person learning students.
- Hybrid students in Group B – Last names beginning with L-Z
- Students arrive between 8:00 and 8:10 am.
- School dismissal at 2:30 pm.
Friday, September 4: Regular School Day
- All Grade 6, 7, 8 in-person learning students.
- Hybrid students in Group A – Last names beginning with A-K
- Students arrive between 8:00 and 8:10 am.
- School dismissal at 2:30 pm.
DROP OFF / PICK UP ENTRANCES
Grade 6 Entrance:
The drop-off and pick up entrance for the sixth grade are the doors located on the side of the gymnasium. Parents should enter the Pier St. entrance, continuing straight ahead, and drop students off. Once students have been dropped off, proceed around the back of the building and exit near Carroll St.
Grade 7 Entrance:
The drop-off and pick up entrance for the seventh grade are the doors located to the left of the auditorium. Parents should enter the Pier St. entrance, turn left, and proceed to the drop off area. Once students have been dropped off, proceed to the middle entrance and exit near Parker St.
Grade 8 Entrance:
The drop-off and pick up entrance for the eighth grade are the doors located to the right of the library. Parents should enter the Pier St. entrance, turn left and proceed to the drop off area nearest to the middle entrance. Once a student has been dropped off exit the middle entrance near Parker St.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL TIMES:
Arrival – Students should arrive at school between 8:00 – 8:10 am
Dismissal – Walkers will be dismissed at 2:25 pm, students being picked up will be dismissed at 2:27 pm, and bus students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm
CDC/MDOE guidelines prohibit parents/guardians and visitors to access the building. Students being dismissed for an appointment during the school day will be escorted to the front door by office personnel.
BLUE AND WHITE PAW PRINTS
Blue and White Pawprints have been painted on the sidewalks 6 feet apart to help students maintain distancing.
MASK / FACE COVERINGS
Per Governor Mills’ mandate, all students and staff are required to wear a face mask or face covering.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH:
Breakfast and lunch counts for students attending school 5 days will be taken Monday morning of each week and reported to the kitchen. Students who have selected the Hybrid or Remote school options and want to order breakfast/lunch must sign up for the week and all orders must be received by 2 pm the day prior to pick up. Lunches can be picked up outside the cafeteria. Pick up time is 10:00 am.
If students want to purchase lunch, parents can pay online using NUTRAKIDS or by personal check.
I want to thank all families for their patience and understanding with the delay in classroom placements and all of the various changes that have taken place through these unprecedented times.
