Tuesdays have taken on a new meaning for 17 of our sixth graders at the James F. Doughty School. Thanks to students from Bangor High School’s National Honor Society and Key Club, we have a one-to-one mentor program that just might be our most successful year yet. The program began the fall of 2009 with just a handful of dedicated high school mentors, and each year has grown into the program it is today. Each sixth grader is partnered with a high school mentor who helps them with their schoolwork during the first 45 minutes and then plays for the remaining 45 minutes. This year, our library’s new Maker Space materials, like littleBits snap circuits, Ozo Bots, and Legos have provided many opportunities for the students to collaborate on designing and building all sorts of creative projects.
